What are LM potencies

The LM potencies

Samuel Hahnemann spent his entire life searching for the perfect treatment method for his patients. His last research results were the 50 millesimal potencies, now known as LM potencies (L = 50 / M = 1,000). With this new method of potentization, Hahnemann had developed more efficient, gentle, yet deep acting medicines.

A great advantage of the LM potencies is the ability to adjust the dosage and the frequency of doses according to each individual patient and disease process. LM potencies thereby eliminate the occurrence of initial symptom aggravations.

The homeopathic remedy

Hahnemann unlocked the hidden medicinal properties of substances by a process of dilution and succussion (shaking); he thus turned even materially inert raw materials, such as table salt or iron, into valuable homeopathic medicines.

He called this process potentization.

What does the term potency mean in Homeopathy?

For the production of homeopathic remedies, Hahnemann developed the process of potentization (from the Latin word potentia: „power“) as an important basic principle. In this process, the starting material is triturated (pulverized) by hand, and then gradually diluted and succussed (vigorously shaken). The concentration of the starting material is thereby reduced, while its medicinal effect is enhanced. Through this process even toxic starting materials can be transformed into valuable homeopathic remedies.

The mildest potency

For more than 60 years, Hahnemann researched to develop the perfect homeopathic remedy. The result of his research are the LM potencies. LM potencies are characterized by their mild yet deep acting effect. Due to these properties, LM potencies achieve fast and gentle therapeutic cures for acute as well as chronic diseases.

In chronic diseases, LM potencies can be administered daily without causing initial symptom aggravations.

For acute ailments, LM potencies can be taken several times daily.

The less-known remedy

Even today, LM potencies are relatively unknown. Samuel Hahnemann developed these remedies only towards the end of his life and did not have the opportunity to disseminate his new knowledge. Consequently, the LM potencies fell into obscurity for many years and were only rediscovered by a few homeopaths in the 1940s.

The founder of Arcana, Dr. Willi Sewerin, initially as a veterinarian and later as a naturopathic practitioner, was searching for gentle and reliable medicines for his patients. By chance, he came across Samuel Hahnemann's Organon of the Healing Art, 6th edition, and was inspired by homeopathy and the LM potencies mentioned therein. He decided to make these remedies himself for his veterinary practice and incorporate them into his treatments. He realized he had discovered a special medicinal form for himself. Many years later, Dr. Willi Sewerin founded Arcana to make these medications available to a broader audience. He deliberately chose the name Arcana (from Latin arcanum, meaning „the secret“) to underscore the deep, hidden knowledge within these remedies.
