The company Arcana was established in 1957. We are one of the oldest manufacturers of homeopathic medicines in Germany. We consider ourselves a family business with a deep commitment to the homeopathic tradition.
The Founder Dr. med.vet. Willi Sewerin
The company founder, veterinarian Dr. med. vet. Willi Sewerin, opened a veterinary practice in 1949 in his hometown of Gütersloh in North Rhine-Westphalia. When he realized that conventional allopathic treatment methods did not always lead to the desired results, he began searching for alternatives and found answers in Samuel Hahnemann's Organon of the Healing Art, a book about the fundamental principles of homeopathy.
The founding of the company
In the 6th edition of the Organon of the Healing Art, Dr. Willi Sewerin read about the LM potencies, which, according to their developer Samuel Hahnemann, were considered the mildest and at the same time deepest-acting of homeopathic remedies. In painstaking manual work, following Hahnemann’s instructions, Dr. Sewerin began producing LM potencies himself, initially for use in his own veterinary practice.
When Dr. Willi Sewerin attended a seminar by Swiss physician and homeopath Dr. Adolf Voegeli in 1954, many colleagues approached him, asking if he could also manufacture LM potencies for them. In October 1957, Dr. Willi Sewerin consequently founded the company Arcana, which would henceforth manufacture and distribute high quality homeopathic remedies.
Hahnemann's Legacy
Since he first read about them, Dr. Willi Sewerin was convinced of the unique qualities of the LM potencies described by Hahnemann in his final work, the 6th edition of the Organon of the Healing Art. Therefore, since the establishment of the company, Arcana exclusively produces liquid LM potencies. Samuel vHahnemann developed them after 60 years of research, making them arguably the culmination of his work. Arcana upholds this legacy, including the fact that all manufacturing steps are carried out manually.
The Company Today
Today, Dr. Sewerin’s eldest daughter, the pharmacist Katrin Zink, serves as the chief production officer. She and her younger sister Eva Sewerin form the management team of the company. The leadership team is completed by Dirk Bettenworth, the great-nephew of the company’s founder. As a pharmacist and naturopathic practitioner, he, together with Katrin Zink, offers lectures and tours of the manufacturing department as part of the Arcana Academy.
